Preventative
Surgeries
At this time the major "preventative" surgery is the Selective Dorsal
Rhizotomy (SDR). I term it as preventative as it can sometimes prevent a child from
needing the major orthopedic surgeries which treat the result of spasticity. The SDR
tries to reduce the spasticity in the hopes of preventing the orthopedic deformities that
are so common in our children. I'm sure there will be other surgeries developed as
time goes on. Please let me know if you know of any others.
